Turning Houses Into Homes: A Home and Garden Blog

2 Ways To Make Your House A Home From The Outside

If you are trying to make your house feel like home, there are a lot of things that you can do. One thing that you might not think about doing is to work on the outside of your house. If you work on your yard, you can start to feel like you are home just as soon as you get a glimpse of your yard and the outside of your house, even if you haven't pulled into the driveway yet. So, what are some things that you can do?

Decorative Mailbox

One thing that you can do is to get a decorative mailbox. That way your mailbox and your yard are going to stand out from a mile away and will show everyone your particular aesthetic. The nice thing is that there are all kinds of mailboxes out there that you can choose from. You can get everything from a mailbox that looks like a tractor to one that looks like a UFO. You may even be able to work with a metal worker and see if they can help you come up with a custom mailbox if you can't find the one that is just perfect for you and your needs. Changing the mailbox over is usually pretty easy, all you need to do is to remove the existing one from the post and then screw the new one into place. If you aren't allowed to change your mailbox at the street, for whatever reason, you may want to get a smaller one that you can put in a garden, just to look pretty.

Yard Art

Most people don't think about yard art outside of pink flamingos or generic garden gnomes, but the nice thing is that there are so many more options out there that you can choose from. For example, if you do want to put garden gnomes in your yard and garden, you can get some that are more specialized. For example, if you like zombie movies, you can get zombie garden gnomes that will look like they just stepped out of your favorite zombie movie. You could also get pink tyrannosaurus rexes instead of pink flamingos to set in your garden if you are a big dinosaur fan or a paleontologist.

Making a house a home can take more than just setting up the inside and decorating it the way you want. You can start from the outside and work your way in.
