Window Treatment Insight For The Right Select And Maintenance

Your home's windows are an important part of your home's interior. They allow in light and provide you with a view of the outside world while protecting you from weather and extreme temperatures. To keep your home windows managed appropriately with sunlight and privacy, window treatments are an important amendment you should make to their interior. But there are many options to choose from with window treatments based on their appearance and functionality, so here are some selection and maintenance tips for your home's window treatments to keep them working well and kept clean.

Select the Style

One of the first things you will look at when you are shopping for window treatments is the style of the blinds or draperies. There are a variety of colors and fabrics. Sheer and insulation with draperies, and with blinds you can choose from vinyl, aluminum, wood, and cellular fabric.

The type of window covering you choose for your home's windows can vary based on the room and your needs with the window. For example, in a bedroom, you will want to have plenty of privacy, so a window blind that blocks the outside view is important, along with the preference of blocking out all the sunlight.

You may also want to add draperies or sheer curtains along with your window blinds. Draperies added to the blinds can soften the look and add warmth to the room. In a room that has southern-facing windows, you may want to choose draperies or blinds that can fully block out the sun's rays to keep your home interior cool during the summer months.

Consider Insulation

When you live in a climate that has extreme temperatures from winter to summer, look at window treatments that have insulation. This feature of the blinds and draperies will block out the sun's heat in the summer and keep your home's heat from escaping the windows during the winter. Blinds that are made of fabric offer more insulation properties than wooden or metal blinds. In draperies, fabric panels that are lined with an extra layer of woven fabric will keep your home more comfortable.

Keep Them Cleaned

Once you have chosen a specific type of window blind, you will need to clean them regularly. Blinds can collect dust and dirt in your home and will need to be dusted. Use your vacuum wand or nozzle to vacuum the closed blinds. You can also wipe them with a microfiber cloth or use a dusting wand to wipe them clean. Vinyl or metal blinds can be washed and sprayed off in your bathtub to clean them. Just be sure you allow them to dry fully.

Follow up every couple weeks by dusting your blinds again to keep them from accumulating more dust.
